Meet Bethany from Ferntree Cottage
Hello there, I’m Bethany, it’s great to meet you!
Ferntree Cottage started off as a place for me to easily share my favourite recipes and gardening updates with my family, friends and community. My audience is a lovely small intimate community that’s slowly growing as new like-minded friends, such as yourself, join in on the fun. The types of topics I share are also growing. I now share my favourite crochet patterns, bee keeping updates, homeschool activities and much more. I even have a space to share and sell my art work on here in the works!
My Husband and I live in South East Queensland Australia, with our two young children in a semi-rural area. Over the past 15 years, our garden has grown from two veggie patches to 10 large garden beds, bee hives, and a growing orchard of fruit trees. Inside the house, I have a growing collection of fermenting “little beasties” I look after such as my sourdough starter, kefir grains and ginger bug.
As I add new skills to my arsenal through my ever-growing list of projects in the garden, kitchen, home, and art studio, I’ll be sharing all about it on here and in the newsletter to my family, friends and community which includes you! Hello new friend 🙂
Don’t over complicate the simple life. Turn off the news, bake your pies, play with your kids and frolic through your garden.

What I’m about…
Let’s go back HOME. Homesteading self-sufficient living, homeschooled children, homegrown food, a homemade life living with the seasons and connected to nature, a life you don’t need a vacation from.
We weren’t designed to carry the weight of the world. You can’t change the world, but you can change your corner of it. To be a rebel these days is to grow your own food, preserve your harvests, cook wholefood from-scratch meals, be creative, make your own bread and be self-sufficient. Homeschooling is one of the most underrated ways to help change the world to be a more positive one.
There’s no shame in loving your normal, simple home. I have found so much magic, happiness, beauty and love in being a homebody, in loving the life I’ve built with my family in our own little corner of the world.
Hot girl stuff sounds utterly boring. I love doing old lady stuff. Baking, crocheting, tending to my garden, puzzles, and reading books with a cup of tea.
